Rev. Fr. Professor Christian Anieke hails from Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He was born in Port Harcourt in 1956. He was mostly raised in Enugu State.
He did his primary and secondary school education in Southeast Nigeria. This is before he went on to study English and Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He stated that he was more of a triangular student in Nsukka focusing on church, school, and hostel.
Rev. Fr. Anieke finished from the university in 1989. After his university graduation, he chose a different, and rather strange career path, surprising to his friends and teacher. He enrolled into the seminary on a long process of becoming a priest.
Priesthood
He studied at Seat of Wisdom Seminary, Owerri. He passed through all the processes of becoming a priest–spiritual year, philosophy period, and then theology. Having passed all the requirements for priestly ordination, he was ordained a priest. He was the best student of his set at Seat of Wisdom Seminary, Owerri.
Shortly after his graduation, he was sent on studies leave. He travelled abroad to Austria where he enrolled in a university to get master’s degree in theology and English. He went on to get a PhD in English. All these times, he always emerged as the best student in his class, and sometimes, in the entire university.
Rev. Fr. Professor Christian Anieke returned to Nigeria around 2005. At this time, he was made a visiting professor at Enugu State University of Technology. He started the foundation, building, and construction of Godfrey Okoye University, a university belonging to Enugu Catholic Diocese.
The university began operation in 2009 with a few hundred students. Right now, the university has over 3000 students in over 20 departments. They have also moved to their permanent site. He was the founding Vice Chancellor. He is still the Vice Chancellor till date.
Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke is a prominent priest under Enugu Catholic Diocese. Aside from the university, he is also in charge of Godfrey Okoye University Secondary School, Ecumenical Secondary Schools, Godfrey Okoye University FM, Godfrey Okoye University group of businesses, and so many more. Thus, he spends most of his time promoting and expanding the school.
He has published over 20 articles an books. There are a lot of his articles in top tier peer-reviewed journals.
